The Sobering Reality: A Glimpse into the Current Conditions
The images and videos you have seen paint a stark picture of the daily challenges our students face. These are not minor inconveniences; they are serious health and safety hazards that are especially perilous for visually impaired individuals.
Crumbling and Unsanitary Toilets & Showers: Toilets are broken, leaking, and cannot be flushed properly. Showerheads are missing, replaced by crude, open pipes. Walls are covered in mold and grime, and broken tiles present a constant risk of injury. Basic privacy and cleanliness are luxuries our students do not have.
Hazardous Water Access: Sinks are cracked and pulling away from the walls, with makeshift, leaking pipes underneath. Taps are rusted, broken, or missing entirely. The simple act of washing hands or getting a drink of water is a daily struggle.
Severe Courtyard Flooding: Due to a complete lack of proper drainage, the main courtyard floods with the slightest rain, creating vast pools of stagnant, dirty water. This is not only a breeding ground for disease-carrying insects but also an extreme navigation hazard for students who rely on familiarity and safe footing to move around their campus.
These deplorable conditions are an affront to the dignity of every child. They undermine their health, compromise their safety, and create an environment where focusing on education becomes a monumental challenge.

The Project Plan: Our Path Forward
To turn this vision into a reality, “Project SAFE WASH” (Sanitation and Fresh Water for Every Hand) will be executed in three clear phases:
Phase 1: Complete Overhaul of Sanitary FacilitiesDemolition and Removal: Safely remove all broken toilets, sinks, showers, and crumbling tiles.
Plumbing and Pipework: Replace all old, corroded pipes with new, durable materials to prevent leaks and ensure reliable water flow.Installation of New Fixtures: Install brand-new, water-efficient toilets, accessible sinks, and proper showerheads and controls.
Tiling and Finishing: Re-tile walls and floors with non-slip, easy-to-clean surfaces to ensure long-term hygiene and safety.
Phase 2: Resolving the Outdoor Flooding
Drainage System Engineering: Design and install a proper, graded drainage system in the courtyard to effectively channel rainwater away from walkways.
Repair of External Taps: Replace all broken and leaking outdoor taps to conserve water and provide reliable access points.
Phase 3: Ensuring Long-Term Sustainability
Maintenance Training: Provide on-site staff with basic maintenance training to handle minor repairs and ensure the longevity of the new facilities.
